Be a Change Maker

At ‘This is not my Planet’ we believe in the right to seek asylum as a result of exacerbated climate changes which have resulted in an individual’s displacement and inability to provide the basic needs as outlined under international law. Currently, no such right has been ratified or attributed to those who are in need. Climate change is happening today, affecting millions of families, communities both in you country and in others. It’s not an issue for the developing world, it has already impacted you in some way or another.

This is not my planet seeks to make a difference and advocate on the behalf of the growing millions around the world who live within this legal limbo. In cooperation with other agencies and groups, we together can educate and change the definition for achieving asylum or refugee status to include those who are and will be displaced as a result of Climate Change.

Who are we: We are a group of young international development students at Maynooth University, who with your help can make a difference. The world around us is changing and with it we must adapt and account for the impacts this change is having. Regardless of where you live or what you are currently doing, climate change has impacted you in some way and will continue even more so into the future. Mitigating this dangerous climate change is a must, however, adapting to the impacts is a matter of survival. Many of those most vulnerable have contributed the least to GHG emissions and yet remain just outside the confines of sanctuary. Rising sea levels, exacerbated and more frequent droughts, more devastating storms and hurricanes can all be attributed in some degree to our changing climate.
